In today's society, we like to believe our world is that of a "cookie cutter" so when something goes wrong, the fascination becomes consuming. In America, each individual takes pride in their beliefs on politics, religion, justice, and crime. I think In Cold Blood acknowledges this due to the reality of the details about the towns reactions to the Clutter family murder. I also find it extremely interesting how Perry attempted to make his victims comfortable, highlighting the fact that Americans feel remorseful for their actions. Crime is sadly such an important part of our culture due to the fact that it's publicly displayed everywhere. The news, social media, YouTube, etc. When a devastating action takes place, like the Clutter murders, society becomes enthralled with the case and details, feels sorry for the loss of loved ones, but fears that something so disastrous has happened. Nevertheless, I think it also displays how powerful and determined America is when it comes to crime. Dewey will not rest until he uncovers the truth about murders, risking all he has. Crime is everywhere, but it continues to display how America will always attain justice.
