Essentially, Perry is speaking about the topic of free will. He believes that, at the end of the day, people can't control their own destinies. Take, for example, the motorcycle accident that led to his leg injury. He believed it to be totally unavoidable. As far as I believe, he's not right. Maybe, had he taken steps to better ensure his safety (I don't know, maybe buy A CAR INSTEAD OF A MOTORCYCLE) he likely wouldn't have ended up in his condition. He also references a bird that routinely plucks him to safety in his dreams. He feels the "presence" of the bird when he catches a massive fish in Mexico. But, since he believes that somehow, fate will save him (the bird symbolizes this), how should he explain his post murder premonitions? His philosophy just doesn't make sense.
