Literary non-fiction is a combination of a novel and crimal reporting. It contains real facts and characters, yet it is read like a novel. He uses the novel aspect to show the crime through many perspectives and connect emotionally with the readers, but uses the true crime to hook the vast audience. The duality of this book sets up for an emotional dilemma as the reader must choose to feel sympathetic for the killers, the family, or both. Capote ulitlizes the novel-like story to express how troubling Perry's childhood was. He describes how most of Perry's family have either killed themselves or have mysteriously died, execpt for his sister. On the crimal reporting aspect, Truman Capote captures the real story as presented by the criminals, with facts. The facts and since its a true story, intrigues the audience. In Cold Blood is different from other novels or criminal reports because it captures the audience through dynmanic perspectives while at the same time being 100% accurate. I think Capote chose to write with this style because during his research, became sympathetic for the criminals and felt a straight crime report didn't do justice for Dick and Perry. He wanted the audience to feel the same way he did, conflicted. The impact on the reader is just what Capote intended, to be conflicted on whether not to have sympathy for the murderers. Capote's use of fact and storytelling makes the reader want to find out more about the case, and the outcomes for Dick and Perry, which makes the reader keep reading.
