With this book, Truman has been credited with developing new genre of weighting: "literary non-fiction." What might that mean term mean, and how does In Cold Blood differ from straight crime reporting? Why did Capote create the kind of story he did, and what is its impact on the reader of this new approach?
-Literary non-fiction is s genre of weighting that uses literary techniques to create factually styles to create factually accurate narratives. literary nonfiction contrasts with other nonfiction, such as technical weighting or journalism, which is also rooted in accurate fact but is not primarily written in service to its craft. As a genre, literary nonfiction is still relatively young, and is only beginning to be scrutinized with the same critical analysis given to fiction and poetry. ICB differs from straight crime reporting in the way that your are able to build relationships with the characters in the way that Capote writes, with actual crime reports they are very to the point, you don't really get an in depth understanding of the people that were involved in the crime in the same way that you do in ICB. I think the reason why capote wrote this kind of story is so that he could really go in depth with his characters and the story and their backgrounds. you almost feel bad for the criminals when you hear their story when in a regular crime report you don't feel that, Capote really focuses on building an understanding of the story for the reader and building emotional ties with every character and making you feel almost like you were actually there. The impact on the reader are the emotions you feel for the characters, I even felt sorry for the criminals when reading the book because I'm really able to understand the crime with the way he writes when he goes into detain about each character. capote uses many literary elements in ICB and id bias which is very unique because wheat he is weighting actuals happened and I think that also contributes to the way readers feel when reading this book because even though is sound fictional it is always in the back of our minds that this really happened.
