The pure uniqueness of Truman Capote's background as well his determination allowed him to pioneer literary non-fiction. Because Truman came from New York, a place completely different from the rural Kansas town of Holcomb, he is able to introduce a fresh open mind to the city in Kansas. Because of his initial objectivity, he is able to shape a truly unique novel through gathering facts. Hard work gains Capote all the information he needs to know about the murder. By placing an subjective feel on factual information, Truman makes his piece work. By switching points of view from the killers to the crime solvers, Truman sets his work apart from any crime report, something completely objective. Capote uses techniques like switching point of view in order to make the reader feel like they are reading a novel. While they become sucked into the story, they actually learn the facts and story, just in a different way. Rather than a list of facts, Capote molds a story together based off the information he has gathered. When Capote switches to the killer's point of view, the reader actually feels a connection even sympathy with them rather than deep hatred. Capote is able to change the reader's emotion through his technique.
