I think that a literary non-fiction is a a story that is true, yet through in depth description seems as if it is fiction. Truman Capote's In Cold Blood strays from straight crime reporting several reasons. First, due to the amount of background that is given. In other crime shows/books there is little background given because the friends and family of the victim are afraid or there is simply nobody to talk to. Second, the overwhelming amount of descriptive imagery. Most news reporters' description of a crime is very vague. Capote make the reader feel as if Capote is writing from his head and telling the story in an all knowing 3rd person. As, he knows everyone's thoughts, before the reader does. Capote was looking to set a name for himself, he practically master this particular form of writing. The reader has an even more in depth understanding of the plot, as most crime shows have a very complex plot, in contrast.
