Truman Capote’s literary non-fiction story “In Cold Blood” has all of the facts and truth of a traditional non-fiction piece with the immersion, suspense, and creativity of a fiction story. I believe that Capote uses this brand new genre because he realizes that he can take the facts of the crime and bend the truth of the less interesting parts to create an easily flowing story that helps the reader to become more connected with the characters and overall plot of the book. While straight crime reporting delivers all of the facts, it does not allow for the development of the characters and story line meant to elicit the emotions and hold the attention of the reader.
