Journalism focuses on objectivity. Facts, not opinions (unless we're talking editorials) are what journalists rely on. Capote twists this idea of journalism to create the True Crime genre. He gathers all the facts, interviews the townspeople, interviews the murderers. But he goes a step beyond in depth journalism of the Clutter murder - he gives emotions, inner narratives, motivations, and thoughts to the people - more aptly described as characters withing Capote's context. By doing this, he creates a story that is much more compelling and interesting to readers, if not totally true to the crime and known variables.
