1. Do you think there is a difference between reading a true crime book and reading a violent fiction book? Do you feel different while reading one as compared to the other? Yes, there is a substantial difference between reading a true crime book and reading a violent fiction book. When reading a true crime book, the reader is allowed the opportunity to connect with the characters on a deeper level. Whereas when reading a violent fiction book the reader is constantly telling themselves that the events taking place are not real, therefore there is not as much raw emotion developed in the reader. This raw emotion can impact the reader in a very large way. For example, in the novel, we "witness" the deaths of Dick and Perry and we find ourselves feeling a sense of sorrow after their passing because we recognize that it is an absence of two lives on this world. But if Dick and Perry were fictional characters it is likely that we would have more of a "they deserved it" attitude. When the reader recognizes that the events and characters are not real, either consciously or subconsciously, their emotions and positions are likely to change.
