I was totaly surprised towards Dick's reaction as he walked towards his death. He was completely calm and greeted and smiled at people who were there to watch his funeral. I beilieve he would have been a coward and been frantic trying to get people to forgive him and bless his soul, but I was wrong. He surprised everyone there as well with his strange attitude. He thanked the Kansas state for doing their job, smiled and said a little prayer. So calmly, that was it. As for Perry, you could tell there was something wrong with him the way described in the book how he smiled at Dewey and winked. Also for his last words, he makes it very clear that he is totally against capital punishment, and the way Capote describes the death, he agrees with Perry. I found it strange how he apologized and how he stated how against he was towards the death penalty In such a formal matter. I believe that both of their last words were not to be expected of and strange.
