I believe there is a difference between reading a true crime book and a violent fiction book because if you know the book is based off of a true story than while you are reading it causes you to emotionally get tied to the events because you feel sympathetic for the characters or shock knowing such violent events could occur. But i do also believe fiction crime books can still cause you to experience emotions if you have a personal connection that is related the book. Just as if you know a movie is based off of a true story, it can be more terrifying to the audience knowing that its real instead of fiction where you can just tell yourself the events didn't occur so there is no reason to be afraid. However if you didn't know you were reading a fiction or true crime book, i don't believe you could tell a difference by just reading it.
