Do you think there is a difference between reading a true crime book and reading a violent fiction book? Do you feel different while reading one as compared to the other?
I think there is a suddle but very impactful difference between a true crime and violent fiction book. An author writing a violent fiction book has freedom to develop a character to a point that makes the character almost unrealistic. The character can get out of extremely unrealistic situations and usually always end in a "happily ever after..." The emotions the reader feels while reading the violent fiction book are excitement and fear, but the reader still always has the fact that it is fiction in the back of his or her mind. While reading a true crime book, a reader can feel much strong emotions of fear because they are always thinking, "this could happen to me." A true crime book like in cold blood makes the reader feel more realistic emotions like sadness, empathy, and true fear of the situation.
