We are just as much a product of the environment we grow up in as what we are predisposed to. Although our genetics may dictate our hair color, body type, skin tone, and even certain personality traits, the environment is constantly battering us with stimuli that becomes ingrained in our brains and we cannot dictate what gets saved and what doesn't. The "Monkey see, Monkey do" philosophy applies very heavily to developing members of society. Childern that grow up in an abusive household are more likely to become abusive, those that live with alcoholics are predisposed to alcoholism, pick your poison, it can most likely be explained by an occurance in your past (especially if you're a psychodynamic psychologist following Sigmund Freud). However, it is not okay to turn around and commit murder or things to this effect because you had a unfortunate past. These qualities may or may not be exposed to you as a child but you are still are to be held accountable for any actions. This settles directly into the Nature vs. Nurture debate that is still under consideration.
