We are always responsible for our actions and beliefs. Though there can be explanations for behaviors, morals, and actions taken by people, there are no excuses. We are responsible for how we treat others, and whether that treatment has been influenced and shaped by one's previous experiences is not the point. Being harmed does not justify more harm being done. Someone's past does not negate their present, and if they allow that past to control them and influence their decisions without being aware and conscious of that bias, it still does not excuse their behavior. Having daddy issues does not allow someone to tie up a child and shoot them in the head. A harsh past doesn't make their crime lesser, it doesn't make it any less horrifying and cruel. If we are to believe that humans have free will, then we have to accept that we are responsible for every single one of our actions and reactions. We are responsible, and we must accept and face the consequences these actions create.
