1) Why is there a fascination with true crime in America? In what ways does In Cold Blood provide insight into the nature of American crime and how we react to it? -In America, crime is a very widespread issue that affects almost every person. Each of us has either directly or indirectly had some type of experience with crime. We don't quite understand something that so greatly affects us, so we write books, television shows and movies based upon it to provide our own answers. The novel, In Cold Blood, gives the people an inside look at the thought process and background information of the criminals to attempt to give them a better understanding of why the two criminals perform such horrific actions.

I agree with the basic premise that you've proposed, however i think more elaboration could be useful. For instance, when discussing how we provide our own answers for the motive of crime through media outlets, I think it would be helpful to discuss both examples of the outlet and what reasoning that it provides. For instance, to use a childish example, in The Incredibles, Syndrome's motive for turning evil and attacking the city isn't to gain money or power. It's because he was shunned by his hero as a child and wanted to gain the respect as a hero that he was never given. Another spot that could've used a little more elaboration is when you are discussing the insight that In Cold Blood gives us. One insight is that crime can be committed to simply in order to meet up with an old acquaintance, such as Perry wanting to meet up with Willie Jay.
